Missions & Outreach "...love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:39 We support many local and wider mission projects. In 2007 we turned our focus on local outreach and world-wide missions in a more intentional manner. We supported the folks from West Bath Baptist who went to Brazil by collecting old prescription glasses to be used in eye care ministries to folks who otherwise live without proper vision. We supported two local teens who went on trips to Costa Rica and Greece & Italy. We supported a youth in the Extreme Team 2007 who went to Mexico. Our Christmas tree was decorated with hats, mittens, and scarves which were provided to Community Concepts to assist those in need in our local communities. Outreach was supported through our weekly Bread Pan Offerings and Discretionary Funds, which contributed in supporting REACH, St. Jude Childrens Hospital & Cancer Research, a local family to provide school clothes and necessary supplies, a local scholarship fund, to assist a person with moving expenses, providing assistance with requests for rent and fuel needs, and supporting the local prison ministry. We collected non-perishable food items and gave a monetary donation to the local food pantry. We supported ABCOM world missions by taking up intentional offerings to America for Christ National Ministries, One Great Hour of Sharing, and World Mission Offering.
One Great Hour of Sharing is an offering that makes real the love of Christ for individuals and communities around the world who suffer the effects of disasters, conflict, or severe economic hardship, and for those who serve them through gifts of money and time. "For the love of Christ urges us on...."2 Corinthians 5:14-15
As part of American Baptist Churches USA, National Ministries answers God's call to live out Christian faith and transform individuals, congregations and communities through developing Christ-centered leadership, networks and programs committed to witness and evangelism, social justice, discipleship and mission work across the United States and Puerto Rico. More importantly than the world outreach that we participate in is the local outreaches that we work with. Some of the specifics listed above all fit into our mission to meet the needs in the community around us. We cooperate with whoever is furthering the cause of Christ as we see it laid down in scripture. We also strive with our resources to meet the needs that God brings across our path. We believe by meeting those needs that we can draw people in to Christ and into our church. The bigger goal of reconnecting people back to God spiritually is not in opposition to meeting people’s immediate challenges. We love God and we love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves. |
